Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: A Graduate Degree from a recognized University or its equivalent as on the closing date of online application (2025-10-14). Candidates awaiting final results are NOT eligible.

  • Nationality/Citizenship: A candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee (pre 1962), or a person of Indian origin migrated from specific countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. A Certificate of Eligibility may be required for non-Indian citizens.
  • Medical Standards: Candidates must meet the prescribed medical standards, particularly Medical Standard A-2 for Section Controller. Candidates who have undergone Lasik surgery or any other corrective eye surgery for refractory error are NOT eligible for posts with Medical Standard A-2.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Applications must be submitted ONLINE ONLY through the official RRB websites. Candidates can apply to only ONE RRB; multiple applications will lead to rejection and debarment.
  • Account Creation: Candidates must first create an account on rrbapply.gov.in. Existing users from earlier CENs (2024 & 2025) should use their existing login credentials. Details entered during account creation (mobile number, email ID) cannot be modified later.
  • Identity Authentication: Authentication using Digi Locker or Aadhaar during account creation is strongly advised for smoother verification.
  • Medium of Examination: CBT questions will be available in English, Hindi, and 13 regional Indian languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu). Candidates must choose their preferred language.
  • Live Photo Capturing: Candidates are required to capture a live photograph using a webcam or front camera during the application process. Dress in non-white (preferably dark) clothing for contrast. Ensure face is visible, centered, and no cap/mask/glasses. Pre-existing photos (printed or digital) will lead to rejection.
  • Mandatory Scanned Documents: Upload scanned copy of your signature (JPG/JPEG, black ink on white paper, running handwriting, 30-49 KB, 140x60 pixels min) and SC/ST Certificate (PDF, less than 400 KB) if opting for free train travel.

  • Payment Mode: Online via internet banking, debit/credit cards, or UPI. Service charges are borne by the candidate.
  • EBC Concession: Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates (annual family income less than Rs. 50,000/-) are eligible for fee concession, NOT job reservation. They must possess a valid income certificate (Annexure IV) or BPL card or Izzat MST issued on or before 2025-10-14.
  • Refund: Refundable amount will be processed only after appearing in the 1st Stage CBT and providing correct bank details.
  • Modification of Application: After submission, details (except those in 'Create an Account' form and chosen RRB) can be modified by paying a non-refundable fee of Rs. 250 for each occasion during the modification window (2025-10-17 to 2025-10-26).

Reservation Policy

  • Vertical Reservation: Provided for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
  • OBC-NCL Certificate: Must be produced in the prescribed format (Annexure II) and issued on or after 2025-04-01 but no later than 2025-10-14. A self-declaration (Annexure IIA) of not belonging to the creamy layer is also required at Document Verification (DV).
  • EWS Reservation: For candidates whose family gross annual income is below Rs. 8 Lakh (Financial Year 2024-2025) and who do not possess specified assets. Income and Asset Certificate in prescribed format (Annexure III) from a competent authority is required.
  • Horizontal Reservation: Provided for Ex-Servicemen (ExSM) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) irrespective of their social community.

Examination Process

  • Stages of Examination: The recruitment process involves:
    1. Single Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)
    2. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
    3. Document Verification (DV)
    4. Medical Examination (ME)
  • Computer Based Test (CBT):
    • Duration: 120 minutes
    • Total Questions: 100
    • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer.
    • Normalization: Marks will be normalized for CBTs held in multiple shifts.
    • Syllabus: Objective type with multiple-choice questions covering Analytical and Mathematical Capability (Mathematics, Data Analysis & Interpretation), Logical Capability (Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension), and Mental Reasoning.
    • Minimum Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS - 40%, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) - 30%, SC - 30%, ST - 25%. (PwBD candidates may receive a 2-mark relaxation if there's a shortage).
  • Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT):
    • Candidates up to 8 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted for CBAT based on CBT performance.
    • Vision Certificate: Shortlisted candidates MUST produce their Vision Certificate (Annexure VI) in original during CBAT, failing which they will not be permitted to appear.
    • Qualifying Marks: A minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each test battery is required for all categories (no relaxation).
    • Merit List: Final merit list will be drawn with 70% weightage for CBT marks and 30% weightage for CBAT marks, only from CBAT qualified candidates.
  • Document Verification (DV):
    • Candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for DV. In case of tie, older candidates will be placed higher, followed by alphabetical order of names.
    • Candidates must submit all original documents along with two sets of self-attested photocopies. Scanned copies of Photo & Signature must be uploaded before DV.

Assistance of Scribe

  • Eligibility: Scribe facility is provided for PwBD candidates with specific benchmark disabilities (Blindness, Locomotor Disability - Both Arm Affected, Cerebral Palsy) and, in certain cases, for other benchmark disabilities or those with less than 40% disability but with difficulty in writing. Relevant certificates (Annexure VIII(D), VIII(E), VIII(F), VIII(G)) and undertakings are required.
  • Registration: Eligible candidates must opt for a scribe in their online application. Scribes must register themselves on rrbapply.gov.in to obtain a One-Time Registration (OTR) number. Candidates must furnish scribe details during a 5-day window after the Modification Window closes.
  • Conditions: A scribe can assist only one candidate per examination. The scribe's educational qualification must be one step below the candidate's.
  • Compensatory Time: Eligible candidates (with or without a scribe) will be provided 20 minutes compensatory time per hour of examination.

Important Instructions & Warnings

  • No Objection Certificate (NOC): Serving Central/State Government employees must inform their employer and obtain an NOC for document verification.
  • Invalid Applications/Rejections: Applications will be summarily rejected for multiple applications to different RRBs, non-compliance with photo/signature guidelines, candidate on debarred list, or other irregularities. Rejected application details will be available online, but no fee refund.
  • E-Call Letters: E-call letters for CBT and CBAT will be available for download from RRB websites approximately 4 days before the exam. No physical call letters will be sent. Candidates must carry the e-call letter and an original valid photo ID to the examination hall.
  • Free Train Travel: SC/ST candidates who opt for free train travel must upload a valid caste certificate. Their e-call letter will include the free travel authority (sleeper class pass). Original community certificate and ID must be carried during the journey.
  • Unfair Practices: Any form of unfair means will lead to debarment for life from all RRB/RRC exams, dismissal from service, and legal action under "The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024."
  • Official Websites: Candidates are advised to frequently visit the official RRB websites for authentic information and updates. A list of RRB websites is provided in the notification.
  • Beware of Touts: Candidates are warned against unscrupulous elements and job racketeers. Selection is based purely on merit.
